10th anniversary of Digidentity

By Digidentity

Today we are proud to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Digidentity was founded exactly ten years ago by founder and CTO, Marcel Wendt. Starting with only one developer, the company now has 70 employees working in the office next to Hollands Spoor train station in The Hague.

Marcel Wendt: “Doing business and maintaining contacts takes place more and more online; this saves (travelling) time and thus costs. That is why secure logins, conducting business online, being certain that the party you are dealing with is who they say they are, and working with digital signatures have become increasingly important.”

Our milestones - how did we get there?

  • 2010: After two years of intensive collaboration with the Dutch government, Digidentity brought out eHerkenning, a digital identity for Dutch employees who communicate with the government.
  • 2012: Digidentity developed the software for DigiD, the Dutch digital authentication system for government and public services.
  • 2014: After two years of collaboration with the UK government, Digidentity became one of the certified companies to provide a digital identity for British citizens, through the service GOV.UK Verify.
  • 2015: Digidentity was officially accredited as a broker and identity provider of the Dutch Idensys identity framework. The company is thereby the first recognised identity provider of Idensys and has started connecting with suppliers across various industries.
  • 2016: Digidentity was acquired by Solera Inc.
  • 2017: Digidentity started a pilot with the US and Canadian government to move away from KBV/KBA (Knowledge Based Verification and Authentication).
  • 2018: Digidentity earned accreditation in the Netherlands as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) under eIDAS (electronic identification, authentication and trust services), the updated EU regulation standard for trusted electronic identification and transactions across the European Union. In the same year Digidentity started implementing relying parties in Germany, France and Italy.
Marcel Wendt: “What will the next ten years bring us? First of all, health data is very personal and has to be protected. Augmented Healthcare is coming, but what role will identity have in this space? "

We are sure the next ten years will be just as exciting!
